Book appraisals for donors of tax-deductible gifts, for owners seeking insurance, and for institutions evaluating their collections are a regular part of my activities. Always, my goal is a conservative, well-substantiated figure that will hold up against inquiry or challenge. I charge fair hourly rates, and the fee structure never reflects a percentage of the appraised worth of a collection or valuable single book. (If an appraiser ever offers to work on a percentage basis, say no thank you politely and look elsewhere.)

Naturally, most of my appraisals have been for individuals and institutions within Southern California, but I h ave also traveled to distant locations for significant collections. I welcome inquiries and will gladly give a brief consultation to determine whether an item or collection is worth the cost of a professional appraisal. References are available.
