Artball playing cards

[St. Paul, Minnesota: the artist, 1972, per OCLC]. Artist's "book." 54 colored playing cards printed both sides, in colored pasteboard box. 8.9 x 6.4 cm (cards). This droll exercise is one of two similar productions. The first, in 1971, was 20 cards of baseball players with the heads of artists grafted onto them. This one is artists and other art personalities as football players. Frank Stella is the ace of hearts, a running back for the Chiefs. Betty Parsons, the queen of spades, is a quarterback for the Saints, and the four is Lee Bontecou, a center for the Eagles. Christo, the ten of diamonds, is a safety for the Colts. The queen of clubs is a linebacker for the Raiders, Louise Nevelson. The two jokers are both substitutes: John Canaday for the Cards and Clement Greenberg for the Jets. And so on. The case is worn, as might be expected. The cards are complete and near fine. **Free domestic shipping with direct order. Item #05151
