Ruth Francken: sculptures, objets, tableaux

Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, 1971. 40 numbered plates, but see explanation below. [44] pp. + covers. Decorated paper covers. 37.5 x about 19 cm folded (37.5 cm unfolded). This fascinating publication consists of 6 leaves 37.5 x 75 cm folded and stapled together to form a saddle-stitched booklet 37.5 cm square. Then the book is folded again vertically so that each large page is divided into two narrow pages, with each half numbered and labeled separately, i.e., the second double-spread is numbered 3 & 4 on the lefthand full page and 5 & 6 on the righthand full page. The text and captions follow this pattern, but the plates consist of multiple photographs of different sizes that do not fall into neat columns. Most of the work is a somewhat Dadaist treatment of telephones and other devices. The final three full leaves document the creatiion of chairs and seats from life casts of human bodies. Some wear. Francken's name, address, and telephone number are written in ink at the upper right corner of the front cover, but probably not by her. **Free domestic shipping with direct order. Item #09671
