Blindsight; with typed manuscript of original poem to Jane and John Fitzgibbon

Wichita, Kansas: Wichita State University, Department of Art Education, College of Fine Arts, 1979. 11 photographs. Unpaginated; [28] pp. Black paper covers. 28 x 21.7 cm. Laid in: an 8-line poem typed (not a carbon copy or printed) on the verso of a piece of UCSD letterhead (where Kaprow was teaching at the time): "An Anniversary for Jane & John Fitzgibbon." With the signature typed, "–a.k. 78" and "(Mar.)" written in by hand. "Introduction," by Mary Sue Foster. "Blindsight (another for George Brecht)," poem, and "Notes," both by Kaprow. "Critique," by Robert C. Morgan. A sequence of quotations from students and teachers closes the text. The extensive papers of John Gratton Fitz Gibbon (1934-2009) are at Stanford University. He and his wife Jane collected and promoted post-1950s California art and artists and were widely involved in the California art scene. He was an art critic, professor, and broadcaster on KPFA, Berkeley's public radio station. They hosted many events by Kaprow and others. The book has some wear at the extremities; horizontal creases at the spine are the usual consequence when a thin book, pamphlet, or magazine has been folded and bound against the grain; it lacks strength when handled and when standing vertically. The typed poem is somewhat browned and creased at the extreme edges, where it stuck out slightly when stored in the book. The caron (inverted circumflex) far left of the title is typed, not a random mark. **Free domestic or international shipping with direct order. Item #16406
