New York: Sidney Janis Gallery, 1952. One mounted color plate, on cover. 8 pp. on oatmeal paper + double covers on heavier stock. 25.4 x 20.9 cm. Tzara's 2-page essay, translated by Marcel Duchamp, relates Schwitters' witty, ironic, pictorial and literary activities to Dada and the temper of his times: "He is among those who have decapitated the haloed capital A from the word "Art" and have placed this word again on the level of human manifestations." The catalogue, by Abraham Chanin, lecturer and later Associate Curator at the Museum of Modern Art, lists 70 collages and other pieces. The cover illustration is "Eintrittskarte, Merz 456," reproduced in its exact size. OCLC locates about 18 copies, but few of this fragile publication can have survived this long intact in the wild. The exhibition also travelled to the Arts Club of Chicago; it is not clear from the library record whether the Chicago version is different or the same, perhaps with a label to designate the new location. Fine. **Free domestic shipping with direct order. Item #28571.1
