Ottawa: Department of the Secretary of State 1971 Original title: Bulletin No. 146, Illustrated flora of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago (original printed 1964 corrected by the artist.). Artist's book. Profusely illustrated in black and white. [ix] + 218 + [5] pp. Dark red buckram printed in bright gilt. The original title of this serious botanical study was "Illustrated flora of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago" (1971). The artist has drastically doctored both the text and the illustrations to produce this catalogue published on the occasion of her exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada, 1 July-8 August, 1971. The writing on the title page is printed. Laid into an envelope pasted onto the inside rear cover are the following: a large poster printed in red on white wove paper 86.3 x 56 cm (folded in 16ths to about 21.5 x 14 cm); it contains a conversation in French and English about the sources of the exhibition between the artist (Joyce Wieland); her husband, the filmmaker Michael Snow; and the curator of the exhibition, Pierre Théberge; also, a small map of Canada in black on white wove paper, 24.1 x 27.2 cm, and a Christmas card. In addition there is an 8-page printout of an article about the 1971 exhibition by Sara Angel in "Canadianart" for September 15, 2011. The 20-page catalogue of the exhibition is not present, the flyleaf has been diagonally price-clipped about 3 cm and the original, small Canadian flag may have been removed carefully from the inside front cover. There are a couple of small, rubbed marks on the rear cover; the top upper corner of the final two plates bumped; generally, the book itself is in tight, crisp, very good condition. The price has been adjusted accordingly. **Free domestic shipping with direct order. Item #34524
