Philadelphia edition: 120 pp. Original worn marbled boards neatly mended at the spine and hinges with binding tape. 22 x 14.2 cm. Lists 1075 exhibits, case by case. 1846 signature on flyleaf. "The Chinese collection occupies the lower saloon of that vast and splendid edifice, recently erected at Ninth and George Streets by the Philadelphia Museum Company." Laurence Sickman's copy, given him by Albert Ten Eyck Gardner, with his inscription inside the front cover: "Merry Christmas to Larry from Al 1940 (one hundred years too late)." Extremities and covers worn. Foxed throughout and dampstained at rear, but still a serviceable copy with library catalogue card indicating provenance and marked "duplicate." ***London edition, 98th thousand: Frontis. showing the "Entrance to the Chinese Exhibition" in the form of a pagoda. 170 pp. + [2] advs. Lists 1341 exhibits and contains extensive additional text not in the Philadelphia version. Dark-green limp cloth with blind-stamped title and decoration. 21.1 x about 13.5 cm. Yellow slip printed in red advertising "Admission One Shilling" mounted on flyleaf. Slight wear at head and tail of spine and bottom corner, and some browning of paper at edges.
