Ecart yearbook 1973: John Armleder, John Golding, Patrick Lucchini, Gerald Minkoff, Daniel Spoerri [from cover]
Genève: Ecart Publications, 1974. Artists's book. The Tate guesses either 920 or 420 copies, but this one clearly is 101 of 420. The limitation is on the final page. This artists’ publication is a squat miniature book of 150 to 200 pp., with paper covers and glued with a cloth backing. It measures 49 x 52 mm x 19 mm thick. The back cover is the same as the front, but inverted. “Homage à Dieter Roth” appears stamped diagonally in green on the front edge. The image shown in the scan happens to be the rear cover. The pages were cut, seemingly at random, from many different sources, some on colored papers and in colored inks, and appear in all possible orientations. Many are blank or contain fragments of illustrations. The intermittent text is mainly French, with some German and English. At least some of the pages appear to come from Ecart publications. Given the number and size of the pages and the apparent size of the edition, it seems likely that every copy is unique. OCLC locates this title only at MoMA, UCLA, and the Tate. Clean and tight but cocked, perhaps a natural consequence of the binding technique. Fine, considering.
