San Francisco: John Irwin; Los Angeles & New York: Charles Cowles, 1964-1980. Artforum's most influential period complete in 14 bound volumes and 2 volumes in original covers. 159 issues, some 12,500 pages or so. Fully collated with all covers present and all in fine condition. Vols. 3 & 4 are unused and bound in dark-green library buckram to my own specifications, with the issues sewn through the gutters so all pages open fully. Vols. 5 & 7 are original, unbound copies, all in fine condition, except the September 1966 "Surrealism" issue, which has normal wear. Vols. 6 & 8 through 18 came from John Coplans' own personal library and are bound in two close shades of blue library buckram. Notably, this set includes the most sought-after of all issues of Artforum, Volume 13, no. 3, November 1974, complete with the transgressive advertisement of Lynda Benglis bound in. It also includes a good, though not fine, copy of the September 1966 "Surrealism" issue with Ed Ruscha's remarkable cover. Other high spots are the very early coverage of Warhol, Lichtenstein, and the entire Pop phenomenon; the beginnings of Conceptual Art, inclluding early writings of Robert Morris, Robert Smithson's 8 important articles written for Artforum, and the complete sequence of Steven Kaltenbach's Conceptual advertisements between November 1968 and December 1969. These 18 volumes contain major articles on Duchamp, Man Ray, Picasso, Pollock, Magritte, Malevich, Sol LeWitt, Frank Stella, Georgia O'Keeffe, Helen Frankenthaler, Allan Kaprow, Yvonne Rainer, and Claes Oldenburg. This list could continue for pages. The scans are representative covers. Please see the free, on-line Artforum Index, 1962-1968 at my own website.
