New York: Artforum, 1974. This much-sought-after and vanishingly rare issue features on its second leaf a transgressive color photograph of the artist Lynda Benglis wearing sunglasses with white frames, a modest earring, a challenging expression, a nice coating of body oil, and a very convincing dildo at least a foot long.
The accompanying scan, by Garrett Takiguchi and Ashley Loga, depicts Lynda attired for polite society with a nod to Georges Sand, another flouter of convention.
Copies of this issue destined to be mailed to subscribers were bound with an additional white cover printed in red. It protected the vulnerable black covers from the usual rubbing and marks of handling common to this issue. This copy addressed to a subscriber in La Jolla, CA. Small hole in outer white cover not affecting printed cover; rear protective cover creased; printed covers show slight signs of handing, including a small, turned corner at top left corner of the rear printed cover; fine in other respects. This issue also contains articles on John Storrs, Bruce Boice, Jonathan Borofsky, photography, and other topics. Most other issues of Artforum available at more modest prices. Please see our long runs, as well.
