The Fox, 1-3 complete + Art & language 3:4, October 1976 (i.e."The Fox 4")

New York: Art & Language, 1975-76. Volume 1, number 1 through number 3, 1975-76 (all published). Some illustrations. Stiff wrappers. 28 x 21.5 cm (standard US letter size). **This early periodical on conceptual art includes contributions by the editors, Andrew Menard, Adrian Piper, Mel Ramsden, Jasna Tivardovic, Lizzie Borden, Ian Burn, Terry Atkinson, Karl Beveridge, and many others. Printed on newsprint with pasteboard covers. Number 1 is browned at the spine and has some underlining and annotation in red; the second leaf is lightly stained. Number 2 is a fresh copy of this fragile, perishable, and important publication. The covers of no. 3 are more browned and stained, and the bottom front corner is bumped; there is a little light annotation; a few corners are turned, and a few edges have closed tears. The copy is still solid but only good. "No.4" is near-fine, except for a little white scrape inside the black design on the cover. Gwen Allen wrote in her "Artists' Magazines: an Alternative Space for Art": "Art-Language 3 no. 4 (October 1976), sarcastically designated as 'The Fox 4,' recounted the history of [dissension between the American and English groups] from the poersopective of the English group." **Free domestic shipping with direct order.
