Researches concerning Jean Grolier, his life and his library, with a partial catalogue of his library

New York: Grolier Club, 1907. 300 copies. A near-fine copy with slipcase. Ed. by Baron Roger Portalis. Translated by Carolyn Shipman. 14 splended hors-texte plates of bindings in colors and gold. xlv + 386 pp. Half-blue morocco and boards with gilt titling. Untrimmed deckle edges on the leading edge and bottom; mostly unopened, except pp. i-xxxiv and 1-6. About 30.8 x 20.8 cm. The cloth slipcase with attached silk ribbon is 31.2 x 22.9 x 61 cm. The untrimmed deckle tront edges have a tew spots from age and dust; the top and bottom edges of the binding have slight wear, and there are three tiny scrapes on the front joint and one on the rear joint. There is a ghost of a barely visible glass ring on the front cover, probably from a century or more ago. The endpaper edges are tanned where the leather faces them; the front hinge is slightly cracked; the bookplate of Dr. Otto L. Schmidt, 1863-1935, Chicago, is pasted on the inside of the front cover; he may not have been the book's first owner; there is a small, skinned spot near the top edge where something has been removed, and the inside of the rear cover bears a lightly pencilled price of 600— (currency not given), a dealer code, and a note: "Edition ltd to 300 copies." Full scholarly apparatus. Item #94501
