The rarest of issues of Zervos' great periodical in a rather poor copy. 94 splendid plates & ills. (3 color). iv + 68 pp. Stiff paper covers. 32 x 24.5 cm. The subtitle promises (and delivers) "Objets mathématique. Objets naturels. Objets sauvages. Objets trouvés. Objets irrationnels. Objets ready made. Objets interprétés. Objets incorporés. Objets mobiles." Duchamp designed the famous cover, "Coeurs volants" with its nested hearts in vibrating red and blue especially for this issue. Among the many other artists illustrated are Man Ray (12 rich black-and-white photos in one article and many in others), Magritte, Bellmer, Giacometti, Picasso, Calder, Ernst, and Meret Oppenheim's "Fur-lined teacup," nearly a year before its startling appearance at MoMA in the show "Fantastic art, Dada, and Surrealism." **The condition of this copy leaves much to be desired. It is disbound, with the covers detached and only the top end of the spine present bearing the identification "1936 No. 1-2." The front cover is dulled, faded near the top and spine edge, and with several spots and other small defects (see photo). The rear cover is better but faded at the spine and creased diagonally at the bottom. There are a few small turned upper corners in the first few pages. The latter half has slight rippling from damp, but no pages are stuck or torn. Vanishingly and deservedly rare in any condition, and priced accordingly. **Free domestic or international shipping with direct order.
