Description

First edition: 100 copies on Japon and 100 copies on Arches (like this one. One original etching, "Portrait de Tristan Bernard" (Adhémar 287; Adriani 249; Wittrock 240), and one color lithograph, "L'Argent," (after the cover for a theatrical program; see Wittrock, pp. 254-55). 38 hors-texte pls. iv + 124 + [8] pp. 3/4-leather binding & marbled boards with gilt titling and period floral decoration on spine. About 27.7 x about 19.8 cm. Original decorated paper front cover bound in. From the library of the collector and philanthropist Adolph Lewisohn, with his lovely, small octagonal bookplate on dark red leather with bright gilt lettering and decoration inside the front cover; the bookplate has left a corresponding stain on the marbled front flyleaf. Light browning of paper towards the edges. Some wear at extremities, but a very nice copy. The first blank after the flyleaf bears the blindstamp of its former owner, a well-known art dealer.
